A Trust Based System for Enhanced Spam Filtering
نویسندگان
چکیده
The effectiveness of current anti-spam systems is limited by the ability of spammers to adapt to filtering techniques and the lack of incentive for mail servers to filter outgoing spam. A new approach, based on decentralised trust management, is described in this paper. An architecture and protocol, called TOPAS (Trust Overlay Protocol for Anti Spam), are presented. Each mail server records trust measures relating to each other mail server of which it is aware. Trust by one mail server in another is influenced by direct experience as well as recommendations issued by collaborating mail servers. The TOPAS protocol specifies how these experiences and recommendations are communicated between each spam filter and its associated trust manager, and between trust managers of different mail servers. A technique for improving mail filtering performance and the TOPAS protocol using these trust measures is also described. Finally, experimental work is presented that illustrates use of the protocol in a simulated network scenario. Initial results illustrate the dynamics of this system, and indicate the potential of this approach to significantly improve rates of false positives and false negatives in anti-spam systems. This is an extended version of a paper presented at the Availability, Reliability and Security Conference in April 2007 [1].

Establishing Trust Between Mail Servers to Improve Spam Filtering
This paper proposes a new way to improve spam filtering based on the establishment and maintenance of trust between mail domains. An architecture is presented where each mail domain has an associated trust manager that dynamically records trust measures pertaining to other domains. Trust by one mail domain in another is influenced by direct experience as well as recommendations issued by collab...

متن کاملPersonalized E-mail Filtering System Based on Usage Control
In order to cope with the problem of spam soaring, a personalized e-mail filtering method based on UCON is proposed. E-mails from different senders were classified as junk e-mail, suspicious e-mail and normal email by trust third-party according to the maintained blacklist and embedded machine learning technology online. Suspicious e-mails will be classified further from users’ point of view ma...

The importance of risk in trust-based systems is well established. This paper presents a novel model of risk and decision-making based on economic theory. Use of the model is illustrated by way of a collaborative spam detection application.
متن کاملTrust Networks for Email Filtering
The fact that spam has become a ubiquitous problem has led to much research which concentrates on the development of tools to identify spam and prevent it from reaching the user’s mailbox. Less effort has been devoted to a question that is related to spam, namely: how to distinguish important messages from unimportant ones. The TrustMail project uses reputation ratings in social networks to sco...
